Lee Seung Gi and Lee Hong Gi Took the Win with Their Passionate and Powerful Vocal Performance of 'Drowning' on 'Immortal Songs'

Legendary! That was how many described Lee Seung Gi and Lee Hong Gi (Lee Hong Ki)'s performance on the May 17, 2025 episode of Immortal Songs 2 – 2025 Oh My Star Special. The two showcased how their powerful vocals blended together beautifully, accompanied by the amazing live band, Captain Planet.

They performed 'Drowning' by WOODZ, and fans were especially moved to see Lee Seung Gi — who had inspired WOODZ to become a singer — now covering his song on the show.

After the episode aired, both Lee Seung Gi and Lee Hong Gi shared photos from the show on their Instagram accounts and expressed how much they enjoyed performing.

Even the MC and other guests couldn’t help but laugh and joke around with them!

It was mentioned that Lee Seung Gi and Lee Hong Gi are from the same clan which is the Jeonju Yi (Lee) Clan. Seung Gi said that there are many people share the same clan though 😂 But, Hong Gi is the one he's closest to.

Even during their introduction, they couldn’t help but bicker 😂 The hosts also pointed out how awkward it was to see Seung Gi as a competitor instead of a host.

Hong Gi mentioned that Seung Gi received the invitation to perform on the show, and the first thing Seung Gi asked him on message is if the song choice was okay. He didn’t ask the company first and asked Hong Gi directly about the song they’d be performing 😂

Seung Gi also admitted how nervous he was to perform against such great singers. Then, Hong Gi revealed that Seung Gi initially said they would “chew them up” (referring to the opponents). But after seeing the lineup, Seung Gi changed his tone and said, “Let’s just enjoy the performance” 😂

Lee Seung Gi also shared his thoughts on the other singers’ performances like a professional. But the serious atmosphere didn’t last long because he just couldn’t help but lighten up the mood. At one point, he even suddenly asked the MC to get Ha Do Kwon (Shin Sung Rok’s close friend who previously guested on MITH) to say something 😂 Do Kwon couldn’t help but laugh and thank Seung Gi.

Seung Gi and Hong Gi really know a lot of people in the industry. Three of the guest singers had previously appeared on shows where Hong Gi served as a judge. Seung Gi mentioned how strict Hong Gi can be when judging, which made Hong Gi nervous about whether he had given any harsh comments to the guest singers in the past. Thankfully, they all had nothing but praise for him.

Meanwhile, Kim Ki Tae (the winner of Sing Again 2) took the opportunity to ask Seung Gi about his reaction to one of his past performances. They even replayed the footage to determine whether Seung Gi actually yawned or if it was just a surprised expression 😂

After the next performance, Seung Gi and Hong Gi made a big fuss about how it would be just the two of them performing on stage, especially since the previous duo had backup dancers. They suddenly turned hilariously dramatic, even asking for fire effect on stage😂

And when their duo was chosen to perform next, it wasn’t just them, everyone got nervous! Even I was on edge watching it live!

When the song was introduced, the pressure on them increased even more because it was mentioned that the original singer’s performance had gone viral, and the song is really difficult to sing.

Meanwhile, Ahn Sung Hoon tried to lighten the mood with some singer impressions, including a hilarious take on how Cho Yong Pil would sing Lee Seung Gi’s song "Delete."

On their way backstage, Seung Gi and Hong Gi's nervousness was obvious, but once they hit the stage, you’d never know it. They lit it up so well that any nerves completely disappeared.

The other guests also commented on how much Seung Gi and Hong Gi were clearly enjoying themselves on stage, especially highlighting Seung Gi’s joyful expression. Their passion and vocal talent truly shone through during the performance.

Before the announcement of winner, they shared with the audience how close they are and who the senior is between them. They really match each other and that's how they were able to win the round👏👏👏

Even their opponents mentioned how their performance caused a huge reaction in the waiting room 🔥 Choi Sungsoo praised their outstanding performance. He even joked about how the two made a big fuss in the waiting room and say that they don’t get along 😂 But once they were on stage, they got along perfectly and delivered an excellent performance.

After what felt like forever… (An exaggeration because I thought I was going to faint from the suspense while waiting for the announcement live) 😂

The final winner is... Lee Seung Gi and Lee Hong Gi!!!👏👏👏

They beat the other four duos and took home the trophy!

Seung Gi and Hong Gi thanked their fans for the warm response they received, especially since it was Seung Gi’s first performance on the show and Hong Ki’s return on the show after a long time.
